The neighborhoods of our city are changing – fast! All kinds of different people are moving-in… and moving out. Even suburban communities are having to learn how to live with diversity and to co-exist with resource-poor neighbors.
Some things are staying the same, though. There are still lots of places in the city where the poor and marginalized struggle just to get by, where schools can’t keep pace with the needs of their students, and where too many kids seemed born to misfortune.
Today’s city is a place of new realities, and familiar challenges. This calls for a new generation of leadership within churches and faith-based organizations – leaders who are connected to the community and established within the practices of their faith, but who are also innovative in their response to the changing social landscape.
We call such contemporary leaders “people of Issachar.” In the biblical story of King David, the people of Issachar were described as being valuable at a critical moment in history because “they understood the times, and knew what should be done.”
The Issachar Community equips people from all walks of life for servant leadership in an urbanizing world.

The Issachar Community is an outreach of Mile High Ministries, in Denver, Colorado. MHM was formed in 1988 as a collaborative effort between several churches, across denominational and cultural lines.
